Good Monday Morning

As always a thought to start the day; “Always listen to your heart. It may be on your left, but it’s always right!”

After starting the 2023 with only 3 runs so far finishing 3rd, 4th, 2nd, we are finally back racing this week and all being well we should have 3 runners. Gold Medal heads to Lingfield on Wednesday with Harry Burns riding him. Mr Fayez heads to Lingfield on Friday with Kyle Strydom having his first ride in the UK. Faro De San Juan heads to Doncaster on Sunday with Marco Ghianni riding him. It’s good to get the ball rolling again and having horses racing after holding back the last 2 months for the spring/summer season.

It was another fabulous night of racing in Dubai last Saturday. I have to of course remind everyone of another HQ trained winner in Lord North who is now 7 years old and winning the same race for 3 years straight. Again testament to the fact that we have the worlds best facilities to train your horses at HQ.
Japan continue to grow and dominate world racing and it was a fascinating spectacle watching them win more of the worlds great international races. It would be mouth watering if locally in the UK we could raise prize money enough to entice Equinox to run against Desert Crown, the unbeaten Derby winner.

A reminder it’s our Dylan Cunha Racing Open Day 16 April (Sunday) from 10am to 2pm. We look forward to hosting you.

On Saturday we hosted the Bedfordshire Racing Club. We had a great turn out and fun was had by all, meeting the horses and team and sharing a few snacks and drinks. It’s lovely to see real passionate racing fans who love the horses and personalities. We had a fantastic time.

On a sad note, both in the UK and SA, two of the nicest gentlemen I ever came across and both really good horseman, passed away last weekend. In South Africa Herman Brown Snr, a legend in the training ranks and the most kind and helpful person I ever met in racing passed away. I have great memories growing up watching his horses run. In the UK, Dave Morris another shrewd horseman who I was lucky enough to meet, also sadly passed away. In my short time in the UK so far, Dave spent many hours entertaining me on the gallops and telling me stories. I’m a better person for having met both gentleman and I send my sincere condolences to both families. May they both rest in peace.

Our Open Yard policy continues to be popular with our clients and having them be part of the team, really makes racing enjoyable for all. We have space for more horses, so join the yard and get in touch. We will be at all the upcoming sales as well.

Besides our own runners, we are back on the flat and turf in the UK this weekend and I’m sure you’re all just as excited as us to head to Doncaster or be watching from somewhere. The weather forecast isn’t very springlike but we are excited nonetheless. The Lincoln and the Brockelsby are two races I’m sure you’re all trying to find the winner of. Best of luck and may you all have a great week.

To close today; “Yesterday, I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today, I’m wise, so I’m changing myself!”
