Good Monday Morning
To start as always a thought; “Some people feel the rain, others just get wet!”
It has been a particularly icy week at the yard. On Sunday morning our water buckets were even frozen when we got to work. I have to admire and thank the amazing team I’ve got, who haven’t missed a beat, even during the coldest and iciest of morning’s. I haven’t seen a team of people work so hard throughout this year and just for them alone, I can’t wait for the new season and the rewards of all the hard work to come.
We finish the year off with 2 runners this week who’ve both been doing well at home. Confederation goes to Southwell on Thursday with Josephine Gordon riding and Silver Sword heads to Chelmsford with Darragh Keenan riding.
We then complete the week with our staff, owners, yard & syndicates Christmas Party which will be good fun and a big thank you to everyone who has helped us come this far. It’s been a huge effort and we are super thankful to everyone who has contributed.
Hong Kong racing did not disappoint this last weekend as I mentioned last week and there was some great competitive racing on a tight track highlighted for us by Starspangledbanner siring the winner the Hong Kong Mile Gr1. We have been shouting the rooftops off about our Starspangledbanner, now named Battleofbaltimore who I honestly only managed to purchase with a serious turn of foot as England kicked off in their first game of the world cup hence distracting most people for a few minutes. He is serious value and a lovely prospect to have. Get your share before it’s too late with Catch Us If You Can Racing for £350 per 2.5% upfront and £75pm ALL IN from 1 March. After this last weekend, this is even more valuable so get in now..
Talking about the World Cup, it was sad to see England knocked out. I’m not quite sure what needs to be done to bring it home. I personally thought England were really good all tournament and maybe hard done by in the end by the ref, but being a Springbok, fairly used to that. Onwards and upwards to the next World Cup.
Our Assistant Trainer Barney heads to have the unkindest cut of all tomorrow, but we are doing it to keep him well grounded and focused on work…not wondering the streets of HQ, although he doesn’t venture too far off the couch in winter! Think of him tomorrow morning.
By the end of this week all our yearlings will be broken in and ridden away. It’s been a busy time for Adam who has done a fantastic job with them. So far they are all really well behaved and forward going which is exciting for the summer.
For those looking for some interesting racing to follow this weekend coming up, it’s the Guineas in Cape Town, South Africa. It’s a really strong renewal and worth having a look at.
This past Saturday, we had Santa Claus Bev Coult bring all our horses Christmas Stockings which brightened the yard up and made it all festive. It’s lovely having our owners getting involved and it’s good fun for everyone and of course the horses get spoiled. Our team had set up a table with Sherry to warm our owners and staff up followed by homemade soup and bread. We had a decent turnout of owners visiting us and it’s our policy to entertain and involve our owners as much as they can free themselves up to be around the horses.
Just as a reminder to owners and potential clients, we welcome you to visit the yard whenever you can and be part of the horses journey, get to know the horses and staff and share the ups and downs with us. This is what makes us different to any other syndicates, clubs or yards where you get limited and timed access. Join the fun, we have space and give you unlimited access.
