Good Monday Morning
As always to start, a thought; “Christmas, it’s the most wonderful time of the year!” Well for some…for us it’s the spring leading up to the Craven meeting at HQ..
Talking of Christmas, we had our yards Christmas party with Catch Us If You Can Racing and Quest Thoroughbreds. All our owners were invited along with all our staff and loads of fun was had. Great speeches from Andrew of Catch Us If You Can Racing and Jordan from Quest Thoroughbreds. Our owners and staff had lots of fun and bringing everyone together after our first season starting off was a lovely way to end the year and look forward to 2023. We are so thankful for the support we have and how the yard has grown. Our open door policy continues to be extremely popular with owners, giving them the full experience of being part of their horses daily journey.
A special thank you to Santa Bev and everyone from Catch Us If You Can Racing for spoiling everyone involved in our Yard including our horses with lovely gifts!
We had two runners last week. Confederation ran 6th, slightly disappointing but came back safe and sound. Silver Sword was due to run at Chelmsford and was saddled up to run, when they called it off due to various weather related issues.
The weather this past week had been a freezing challenge to say the least. We experienced -10’c most nights and -7’c most morning during work. Besides that, the obvious, our water lines froze so we had to bring in water which was challenging all week, and just as quick as it came, I’m sitting in the office writing the blog this morning and it’s 12’c. The one positive, it did make for good photos of the horses last week. The staff were amazing and worked so well through it all. It’s challenging doing racehorses in those temperatures outdoors. A huge thumbs up must go out to the Jockey Club staff who kept the paths clear and tracks all open the whole week. It’s almost unbelievable that this could be done. Fantastic job. We are so lucky to train in a place with such wonderful facilities and people dedicated to your horses.
For anyone who followed my advice and watched the Cape Guineas, you would’ve witnessed a proper Gr1 horse, Charles Dickens. I haven’t seen a Guineas winner that good since Horse Chestnut. He sat 10 lengths back, switched out, quickened and won as he liked. It would be amazing to see him travel internationally before he passes his peak but unfortunately SA horses are restricted to a ridiculous route to get abroad.
From our yards point of view, most of our horses are on holiday or being broken in. It’s a busy time behind the scenes but quiet time Racing for us. We are building it all up for the spring/summer. It’s nice to see horses like Expressionless fresh and bouncing around again and to see the younger Stock learning the ropes.
For those looking at getting into a yard where they can be part of their horses journey, we have stables and space available for more horses and we also have two fantastic syndicates to get involved with. Do have a look and join the team that involves you.
If you’re looking for Christmas presents, Catch Us If You Can racing has shares available in Battleofbaltimore, a Starspangledbanner colt and Quest Thoroughbreds have shares available in Maggie, a Magna Grecia filly. Both are lovely types and would make great gifts. Get in touch now..
As our next blog only comes up on Boxing Day, I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas.
To close todays blog; “Year end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on, with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us!”
