Blog Forty Five

Good Monday Morning

As we go into a cold week where it’s forecast to snow again, a thought to start todays blog; “Don’t expect to be motivated every day to get out there and make things happen. You won’t be. Don’t count on motivation. Count on discipline!”

On Saturday evening we had Confederation run 4th at Chelmsford. He pulled up a little scratchy but ran his usual honest race and always gives us a good run. He is as honest as anyone could ask for and tries his hardest every time. Our owners and syndicate had a great time at the races with over 20 people attending and the brilliant “Tommo” interviewed most of them in the paddock before the race. Great fun was had by all and the syndicate is a load of fun to be part of.

It’s a tough game as you need numbers, which we don’t have, but I could not really be more pleased with how 2023 has started. When you look at it from a small yards point of view and from a yard that doesn’t have many horses to run every week, we’ve had 2 runs from 1 horse this year so far and he has finished 3rd and 4th earning prize money a 100% of the time. The small team are doing a fantastic job with what we have.

Getting back to our two syndicates Catch Us If You Can Racing and Quest Thoroughbreds, both still have some lovely shares in some smart types for the summer and if you want to experience ownership, this is a really fun way to get involved and get your share. You’ll make lots of friends and have lots of fun and both syndicates will look after you and give you a great experience.

Our yard is open 7 days a week for owners to visit their horses and this also enhances the ownership experience. We love entertaining our clients and having them be fully part of the journey.

We are also attending Tattersalls Horses In Training Sale 3/4 Feb so get in touch.

Last week I attended Darley Europe’s Stallion Parade at Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket with Andrew Pelis who kindly invited me. We were warmly welcomed by the Dalham Hall Stud Team and it was a fantastic experience. The afternoon started as we arrived at the most beautiful place on earth and walked into the magnificent building which has every big race trophy in Europe at the reception area. It’s quite surreal and unbelievable to walk around a place like this. We had a welcome drink and snack and then into the stallion yard where you just simply can’t believe what horses you are surrounded by, but first, the great ones who’ve passed.. the grave yard of Champions, I saw the place of resting of horses like Oh So Sharp (Steve Cauthen told me the best he ever rode, I sent him a photo of her tomb stone and he reconfirmed that), Dubai Millennium, Poet’s Voice, Singspiel, Machiavellian, Lammtarra, Mark Of Esteem, Halling, and more. Goose bumps! A few steps further and the row of champions, horses you’ve only seen on TV, horses you’ve only idolised, all there in 1 row. Dubawi (£375k service fee) was the star of the show for obvious reasons. He is so intelligent and knows he is the big boss. He posed and almost individually stared each and every one of us straight in the eye. Such a a character. I went to see him in the stable as well, where he reaffirmed he’s the big boss and grabbed my cap and wound not let go! Derby winner Masar was most impressive for me personally. He is a wonderful looking horse, a two year old winner and a Craven and Derby winner among other great achievements. Too Darn Hot, Iffraaj, Cracksman, Farhh, Pinatubo, Palace Pier are all household names and to see them up close and in the flesh was simply mind blowing. I saved the best for last though and that is the semi retired New Approach, the former Derby winner and champion, sire of sires, was just the ultimate gentleman and horse. We spent a good bit of time just loving him and he is the ultimate people’s horse. He was kind and affectionate and couldn’t get enough human attention. Amazing to see. He was the nicest horse I’ve ever come across. He had me leaving with the happiest heart. Once we were done with the horses it was lovely to sit and chat to a lot of the team who work at Dalham Hall over a welcomed glass of fermented grapes.

Save the date:
Dylan Cunha Racing Open Day will be on Sunday 16th April. Everyone is welcome. Come and meet the horses and team, as well as Catch Us If You Can Racing and Quest Thoroughbreds and their teams.

To close todays blog; “And while you may not be everyone’s cup of tea, you don’t have to be. Tea has never apologized for not being coffee!”

On that note, time for a cuppa to warm up….
