Blog Forty-four
Good Monday Morning
As always, a thought to get the blog flowing; “Only one person can change your life, that person is you…”
We had one runner last week and it was a positive start to the year. Our syndicate Catch Us If You Can Racing’s Confederation ran a huge 3rd at Wolverhampton after being left 5/6 lengths at the stalls. He played up before hand which he hasn’t done before but ran on from way back to finish a fast closing 3rd under Josephine Gordon who really rode him the whole 5 furlongs. I haven’t seen a horse make up that much ground over 5F at Wolves in a long time, so I’m really happy with that. He took the run well and is entered this coming Saturday as well as a few times next week again so we will try and find the right race for him to get another deserved win under his belt. For a young horse, he’s been so tough and I have so much respect for him. He’s a lovely syndicate horse and we will still have loads of fun with him.
SAVE THE DATE; we are having our annual pre season Open Day BBQ on Sunday 16 April. We will be showing the horses and have lots of fun planned.
The L’Ormarins Kings Plate was a cracking race this last Saturday in Cape Town. Charles Dickens ran a blinder into second beaten by Al Muthana. The interesting thing for me is, the winner was trained by Ricky Maingard who used to be a great trainer in South Africa and trained the likes of Wolf Power, still seen in British and USA pedigrees as well as Bodrum, Respectable and many more top horses. He fell out of flavour as trainers do and went to train in Mauritius. At this time, my father purchased his legendary yard and I trained there and our family lived there up until the day we moved to the UK in 2020. Ricky then returned from Mauritius and moved down to Cape Town and has set up with a couple of horses and in his first few months banged out the biggest Gr1 Mile in SA this last weekend. It was a world class race and I’m interested to see if the winner goes to the Breeders Cup as it’s a win and you’re in race.
Our two syndicates Catch Us If You Can Racing and Quest Thoroughbreds have some really exciting shares available, so get in touch with them and join the fun.
We are a few weeks away from the Tattersalls February Horses In Training Sale and will be trying to find the value with our team, so also get in touch if you’re interested in a horse in training.
Our pedigree expert @pedigree_to_win Luiz Cunha is worth a follow on social media. He will soon be writing articles and giving his thoughts on breeding. Luiz is a lifetime breeding fanatic and has studied pedigrees for over 40 years and is happy to advise and consult anyone on breeding, selecting pedigrees, matings etc. follow him and get in touch.
We continue to build and grow the yard and have space for more horses if anyone is looking for a trainer. Our yard policy is to be open and transparent and we have owners visiting us 7 days a week and being part of all the excitement and the journey of owning a racehorse. Get in contact and join the yard, your horses stable is waiting for it.
In non horse racing news, but Greyhound news, I was happy to have my first winner as a part dog owner yesterday. Our dog Athena’s Spear won well at Harlow and she looks exciting to be involved with. Many different friendships and adventures have come through racehorse syndication and 2023 is looking exciting.
To close today; “A negative mind will never give you a positive life!”
Stay updated and in touch daily following our social media and check back next Monday for the weekly blog.
