Blog Forty Three

Good Monday Morning, the first Monday of 2023.

A thought to start the year; “Don’t be afraid to start over. This time you’re not starting from scratch, you’re starting from experience!”

Happy New Year, I hope you all have a fantastic year ahead and most importantly are all healthy and with us when I write this same blog on the first Monday next year..

All our horses celebrated their birthdays yesterday, all turning a year older. It’s particularly exciting for the now Two Year Olds, it’s almost as if they have finished school and are now entering the real world. Adam has done a marvellous job breaking all of our youngsters in and they are all cantering and well behaved, so we have a lot to look forward to this year.

We have Confederation running tomorrow for our syndicate Catch Us If You Can Racing with Josephine Gordon riding him. We’ve done a lot of work with him and from a 1 draw expect a really good run. We have a lovely group of the syndicate members joining us at Wolverhampton and I’m sure a lot of fun will be had by all. I highly recommend syndication ownership if you’re wanting have a lot of fun and get involved in racing.

On that topic, both our syndicates, Catch Us If You Can Racing and Quest Thoroughbreds, both have affordable and exciting shares available. Get in contact and join the fun.

This weekend coming up in South Africa is the L’Ormarins Kings Plate Gr1, formerly the Queens Plate, a race well worth watching. It’s a Weight For Age Mile and this has to be one of the strongest renewals in history, headed by the exciting 3 year old Charles Dickens.

Barney the honorary assistant trainer and our famous cat has taken his gelding well and continues to enjoy his rest. It’s funny how a cat can change your life. While mucking out this morning, I was thinking about things and how many people got to know us, purely though the cat. We have a good few owners now who’ve come via his story in some form or another and that has changed our lives by giving us horses to work with and grow our yard. He also is the most loving cat and always makes you feel special when you get home. No trainer would ever need an alarm clock with him either, as he wakes up every morning for breakfast, a little too early, but gets us up to feed him and then head to the yard and do the morning feeds for the horses.

It’s a month away from the Tattersalls February Horses In Training Sale, which is on 3/4 Feb and our team will be scouting for a few horses in training when the catalogue comes out shortly. Be sure to get in contact and get involved. We have a complete open door policy and invite our owners to visit their horses as regularly as they want, and get to know the horses, staff and generally be involved enhancing the whole experience and making ownership a whole lot more fun. Join the team.

I won’t be long and Cheltenham will take all control of all racing news and then we can start looking forward to the spring and flat racing season. While Doncaster is the start, it’s the Craven Meeting that really gets things exciting and going. You want to be part of HQ around that time. It’s the place to be! I can’t wait for this time of the year to coming around again. It’s what helps get through the cold days, knowing that amazing Newmarket spring feeling is only a few weeks away..

To close today; “You can’t have a million dollar dream on a minimum wage work ethic!”

Go and make 2023 yours….
