Good Monday Morning

As I write this blog early on this winters Monday morning, I still can’t believe how warm it is for this time of the year, albeit thankful I’m not yet frozen!

To start today, a thought.. “Be a warrior, not a worrier!”

We had a fantastic 2 days at the sales at Tattersalls last week. We spent Sunday going through our shortlist for the Tattersalls December Yearling Sale, which was already shortlisted by @pedigree_to_win on pedigree and then managed to get it down to a strong list for the sale, which we valued the yearlings at and purchased from. It was a good day for us and we got 4 really nice yearlings. We couldn’t be happier. We bought a Saxon Warrior and Starspangledbanner (Coolmore sires) and a Eqtidaar (Shadwell sire) and Time Test (National Stud sire). All out of strong female lines and are lovely specimens. Most of the shares are sold out and there are only a handful left. Get in touch and don’t miss out on the last few remaining shares.

Last week we managed to purchase our top pick at the Arqana HIT Sale, Faro De San Juan. This lad was carefully selected by Jordan Hopkins who’s joined the sales and Bloodstock team and syndicated him within 12 hours. He arrives this afternoon and we look forward to next summer with him.

We don’t have many to run this winter so it’s been a quiet week on the racing front, with only Mr Fayez running at the moment and the poor lad keeps drawing really badly. I can’t get my head around how he can draw badly every time I declare him to run, especially on the AW, where a horse like him could really do with a decent draw.

Silver Sword and Confederation will run in 2 weeks time, where the rest of the yard are resting and being prepped for next year. It’s a quiet time of the year but really busy at the yard, getting the younger horses all going, which is really exciting for us.

Last week The British Racing School asked me to lecture the Trainers Module 2, subject; First Year Of Training, this was really enjoyable and I hope I didn’t scare too many of them away. It was actually really interesting for me to reflect on the past year and talk to up coming new trainers about it. The BRS had assembled a really promising up coming bunch of future trainers. It really is a fantastic course and the BRS do a great job educating the racing industry and helping people get their careers on track.

On a racing front, Constitution Hill was really impressive. There are actually no superlatives for how well he won and he is an exciting horse to follow, as he has been so far.
It was also exciting to see the master Ryan Moore at his best in the Japan Cup. That must surely be ride of the year.

On Sunday I was fortunate enough to be able to join Lulu’s breeders with my father at Lanwades Stallion Day. I had to pinch myself looking around there. Mrs Rausing breeds with Classic horses and Derby winners, the way it’s meant to be…the honours roll around the stables are eye opening. I even got to say hello to actual Derby winner, Sir Percy. Sea The Moon and I became great friends and I must say, it’s the first farm I’ve been to and the stallions are so well behaved, a testament to the team that manage them. The parade was fantastic and the commentary by John Berry really insightful. It was the biggest privilege to see the mare though, the Champion Alpanista who stole the show with her sass. Lanwades is some institution in British Racing and i highly recommend a visit there, especially for your mares to have a date with their fantastic classic stallions!

Our yard continues its open door policy to our owners and we have visitors 7 days a week seeing their horses. This has proved popular and not only do the horses get spoilt but so do the staff. The owners love the access to see the behind the scenes and to be kept completely up to date with their horses daily progress. We have space for more horses and are growing, so join the fun and enjoy an open transparent yard that keeps you well up to date and informed.

To close this weeks blog; “If it’s out of your hands, it deserves freedom from your mind as well!”
