Blog Thirty-Five/Monday 31/10/2022
Good Monday Morning
I start todays blog, as I finished last weeks blog, with another line from Elon Musk and some food for thought, especially for those of us restarting, whatever is may be.. for us personally it’s a new country and new business but for many, it may be something else; he goes on to say, “I made $180 million when I sold PayPal. I put $100 million into Space X, $70 million into Tesla and $10 million into Solar City. I had to borrow money for rent!” Such are the challenges trying to make it in life, you have to throw your all and everything into it, and moving to the UK, my family and I have done that. We have all got stuck in and thrown the kitchen sink at training racehorses here and setting up a new business as well as setting up a new life away from everything we know and everyone we know. Thankfully the support is slowly starting to come our way. It’s been a tough year but we have achieved a lot behind the scenes and look forward to the future.
That brings me to our first syndicate Catch Us If You Can Racing and Confederation, who is about to run and shares are selling out. The support has been overwhelming and Confederation is almost sold out. There are only a few shares left, so get involved. He is doing really well and we can’t wait to run him. We also have Empress Lulu in the syndicate who’s brother was once favourite for the Coventry at Royal Ascot and ran in the Breeders Cup as a two year old, so she is also exciting for the members. We are all having a lot of fun and it’s something you want to join and be part of. It’s honestly a different approach to racing horses and the feedback has been really positive so far.
This weekend is the Breeders Cup and we have lots to look forward to. Some great racing, and I’m only shouting one horse home and that’s Mishriff. Frankie Dettori gets back on and I’ve been watching him at home as I’m lucky enough to see him daily and he looks in great form. Obviously a local HQ winner would also be a cherry on the top for our great facilities in Newmarket. I wish all the Breeders Cup runners a safe and successful two days racing.
Tomorrow morning (Tuesday) I’ll be up super early to watch the Melbourne Cup. I really like Hoo Ya Mal and hope to see him win. It’s a great race, a race that’s stops the nation, and if you have not seen it before, make sure you’re awake and watching Sky Sports Racing early morning, it’s fantastic viewing.
Our other syndicate Quest Thoroughbreds still has some shares for sale in “Maggie” a beautifully bred Magna Grecia filly out of a blacktype producing female line. She is forward going and looks to be a lot of fun. She has taken being ridden like she’s made for it. Coolmore are buying the Magna Grecia’s and I highly recommend getting in touch with Quest Thoroughbreds and getting involved in this one.
It’s a fairly quiet week on the racing front for us this week and we plan to have a few runners next week.
After last week’s Tattersalls Sales and looking at how many horses are leaving the UK, it’s time for change isn’t it? Someone’s going to have to upset someone and make real change or this downward trend will continue. As I’ve said in previous blogs, I’ve seen this rodeo before. Let’s hope change is made, positive change. You can’t shrink yourself to profit so more aggressive change and not reducing racing only, that’s surely not the only answer?
To close today, a thought for the week; “the secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but building on the new” food for thought!
