Good Monday Morning
I start this morning with a line I came across from Usain Bolt; “ I trained for 4 years to run 9 seconds and people give up when they don’t see results in 2 months!”
Training racehorses is so much like that. So much time, effort, blood, sweat, tears and money goes in for that minute or two in a race and so much can go wrong in the race. Our yard has put all the above in this year and more, and sometimes we forget we started with nothing only in March! It’s been a challenging first season with a handful of horses against the super huge yards in the UK, but we are looking forward to continuing to grow with your support. We have made some great connections and met some wonderful people this year and look forward to long lasting relationships with you all.
This week we run Silver Sword who has been extremely frustrating, as he is really talented and shown a lot of good work at home. He refuses to race for some or other reason and we have worked really hard on him. We took him to Newmarket Racecourse where he passed a stalls test before the first race last Friday and behaved impeccably, so we hope that he will behave on Wednesday and run well, or at least run his race.
Expressionless may run on Wednesday as well, before he heads off for a little winter break.
It’s still surreal lining up at Newmarket among the world racing giants with our £5k and £10k purchases. Our whole yard doesn’t cost more than £60/70k which shows what we are really up against, if you look at horse prices last week at Tattersalls.
Other than that we don’t really have much to run for the next 2 weeks.
Confederation and Mr Fayez should step out after that in the first week of November for the winter series and get busy. They are both doing well and we are excited to race them this winter. Hopefully we get sent a few more winter horses for the all weather season as well.
It was sad to see the brilliant Baaeed getting beaten but that ground certainly stopped him from his usual amazing turn of foot. If he goes to the Breeders Cup, I’m sure he will win. If he retires as has been reported, he has been great and it’s been a honour to see him daily. He is a magnificent animal and I’ve enjoyed watching his career. I look forward to seeing him at Stud and hopefully I will be training a little Baaeed one day! This is a great reminder that we race horses and not machines. It’s such an amazing but unpredictable sport.
Well done to Champion Jockey William Buick. He has been a class act and outstanding to say the least. He is a true champion. Next year will be a titanic battle with former champion jockey Oisin Murphy returning and I’m sure we are in for a serious battle between them.
Our Gleneagles yearling filly has now been completely SOLD. She is really nice and we wish her new owners all the best and hope she turns out Gr1 quality for them. We are grateful and thankful to everyone who has supported us thus far.
We have a few share left to sell in Confederation who is doing really well and almost ready to run as I’ve mentioned above.
Another option for those wanting to get involved without the capital outlay, we have leasehold or subscription shares available in Empress Lulu who is a yearling filly by the booming and speedy Muharaar. She is lovely and worth getting into.
Our syndicate Catch Us If You Can Racing is great fun and I urge you to join the fun before he is all sold out.
We also have shares for sale in a lovely Magna Grecia yearling through our other syndicate Quest Thoroughbreds and if Coolmore are buying the Magna Grecia’s, so should you. Get involved.
Don’t miss the opportunity to join our yard…
Our yearlings are all broken in and being ridden away, trotting and hacking around our paddock at the yard.
Part of owning racehorses, is not just racing but also visiting them at the yard and seeing them gallop in the mornings and we encourage this with our owners and have an open door policy making your racing so much more fun. Join the fun now. Syndication is also a great way to meet new people and share the highs and lows of racing with racing friends. I’m really enjoying dealing with all the different people in our syndicates and it’s brought a lot of fun to the yard.
Early on Sunday morning I was at Warren Hill with our 2 possible runners for next week and saw The Jockey Club Estates management inspecting the tracks. These guys were up there early on a Sunday making sure your horses only get the best surfaces. What a magnificent place to train, honestly the worlds best maintained facilities.
As we go into the winter and the time when all yards stock up for the next racing season, we need your support and would like you to keep us in mind for the future.
To close today, remember; “Everyone has bad days. Don’t give up. Pause. Reset. Restart. But, never quit. Always pick yourself up and keep going…”
Until next week, stay in touch and updated daily following our social media.
