Good Monday Morning
It is a good Monday morning for us after a lovely weekend.
As always to start the blog, a little thought; some people dream of success, while other people get up every morning and make it happen..
It’s refreshing and good to see bigger trainers like William Haggas standing up and getting involved in proposing changes to British Racing for the better. While we all won’t agree on the way forward and what changes need to be made, we all agree that change is needed, so the more people that push for improvement and better prize money for owners, the better for racing. British racing is the greatest and the fight continues to keep it there.
On that note, what a privilege it was for us as a small stable of 5 horses to have a runner in The Shergar Cup Stayers at Ascot on Saturday. Our little team WON Best Turned Out and our horse, Moliwood, ran a huge race finishing 4th, right in the mix close up. We couldn’t be prouder or happier. The lads Adam & Kanane did a fantastic job turning Moliwood out in pristine condition and this doesn’t just happen on the day, it’s been all the hard work from them leading up to the race. Ascot is the most magnificent place and the whole experience was unbelievable for all. The Sarkar family, Jonathan, Debbie, Olly and Dan kindly supported us, being our first British owners, and we’re justly rewarded by having a runner at Ascot and running a huge race. Really exciting. It’s quite a story, worth telling I feel. Debbie, a different Debbie, Novice Filly, GoRacingGreen, is an amazing organization that provides a quiet space for people who need time out during the busy days at racing. They also love racing and want to be there. They also do stable tours FREE, for people wanting to meet the amazing animals and staff, sometimes on the biggest days like during Cheltenham etc to provide another option for people instead of the hustle and bustle of a big raceday. So back to my story, Debbie (not Sarkar but the one above) had a rescue kitten named Barney who had a funny skew or lucky leg as we call it, basically found Barney a home but the owner didn’t want him due to the leg, so I offered to take him, and so happy I did as he is the most amazing cat. Anyway, I posted lots of pics on Twitter to keep everyone who followed the story up to date.. Debbie Sarkar who followed the story came up to me at Lingfield in May and asked if I’m Barney’s dad, to which I said yes, and Debbie introduced me to Jonathan and they said they would like to help me and buy me a horse. They contacted me on the following Monday and we together with Jamie Lloyd, representing Meah- Lloyd Bloodstock, walked the long miles at the July Tattersalls sales and settled on Moliwood, having no other definite buyers for other selected lots. To cut a long story short, Debbie tells me I’ve got Barney to thank for getting Moliwood, so THANK YOU Barney. Olly and Dan are racing mad and we get on so well and Moliwood will still bring us a lot of fun in the future. Jonathan has been a trainers dream, leaving me with what needs to be done. It has been an amazing experience training for the Sarkar family who all love their racing and I look forward to the future.
We did have one blip last week though, which made Saturday so much more rewarding. On Tuesday we sent Silver Sword to run at Chelmsford and he behaved so well, jumped out the stalls and refused to race. He has done this before so we are working hard and getting his mind right. It was extremely disappointing as he had shown some classy work in the build up to this run. When you’re such a small yard with so few runners, this gives the heart and soul a good beating but thankfully Ascot picked us back up and Silver Sword will be back!
On Tuesday this week, we have Mighty Mind running with Jason Watson riding him. Mighty Mind has done so well and we are very happy with him. He did get stung by a wasp 2 weeks ago, which set him back for a day or two, but we have been very happy with him since. We are hoping for a good run tomorrow and Jason seems to be riding superbly well at the moment.
We have built up a top little team moving into sales season and we are hoping that people will see this and have the confidence to support a emerging new yard in the UK.
To close todays blog, remember; you are one step closer everyday, so don’t give up today..
