Good Monday Morning

I start todays blog with a line from one of Bob Dylan’s songs…

“When you think you’ve lost everything, you find out you could lose a little more”

What a week, we started off last weeks blog and week after losing Jack de Bromhead and Corobeus, thinking we had lost it all, only to lose Her Majesty The Queen later in the week. What can only be described as a shocking and heartbreaking time for all, not only those in racing but world wide. I would like to offer my official condolences to the Royal Family and everyone in the United Kingdom. RIP Her Majesty The Queen. The one positive that came out of this week, was seeing our new King, His Majesty King Charles giving the most beautiful speech, with pain in his eyes but giving us all hope that we are in the right hands and it will all be ok. Long Live The King.

The week continually got worse for us, as the rain came and we were wanting fast ground for Moliwood. The racing obviously then also got moved two days later due to all racing being abandoned. Having looked at the track we thought it had dried up sufficiently, however it wasn’t to be and Moliwood hardly raised a gallop, not enjoying the surface, as he had done before at York in softer ground. Onwards and upwards, we know for sure now that he prefers quicker ground.

On a positive note, our syndicate Catch Us If You Can Racing, has started off really well and we have sold 50% of Confederation so far and the response in the first week has been really positive. The new owners are already enjoying the benefit of getting to know each other on our group chat and it was also great for me to meet a new owner and member, Dave Cook at Doncaster yesterday. Racing in a syndicate has many benefits, and one of them is the great fun meeting new people. There is still 50% available at £500 per 2.5% share and £60 a month all inclusive training fee. Get in touch with myself or Andrew O’Connor who is doing a great job keeping everyone updated and informed in the syndicate. Confederation has started cantering with us after a week of trotting and settling in and we are really happy with him so far. Join Dylan Cunha Racing and Catch Us If You Can Racing.

We managed to also purchase two lovely yearling fillies last week at the Tattersalls Sommerville Sale. We worked hard on the pedigree side courtesy of our pedigree expert @pedigree_to_win, who found us two fillies by Guineas winners out of mares who have an Irish and French Derby winner in their female lines respectively. They are well bred fillies that simply aren’t the Sommerville Sale types so therein lies the value! This is how we purchased Expressionless last year and he is going on for bigger things later this year and next year for sure. We may have shares a available in them shortly.

Back to being at Doncaster on Sunday… what a beautiful racecourse. It’s truly one of the best tracks around and has great facilities for everyone. I highly recommend a trip to Doncaster Racing for anyone. It was a privilege to watch the St Ledger live and well done to the winning connections. I’ve followed Eldar Eldarov since his first win and really enjoyed seeing him win a Classic.

We will hopefully have Expressionless and Mighty Mind running next week or the week after to fly the flag for us. Both are doing fantastically at home and had a really good workout on Saturday showing their well-being. It was an achievement having Moliwood in the Mallard in our first season with only a handful of horses that are race ready, unfortunately the ground went against us. These two will hopefully run well for us and then Mr Fayez will be back as well for October and the winter series alongside Confederation. It’s not easy with a handful of horses but we are giving it our all and trying to grow the yard.

To close today, a thought for the week; “if you don’t go after what you want, you’ll never have it!”
